EDF smart meter harassment
Discussion
Anybody else experiencing harassment to instal smart meter?
I get inundated with texts and e mails to arrange installation, even a £50 bribe.
I do not want, nor will I ever want one, it is first step to charging different rates day and night. How can you check your bill if this happens? Just have to accept their numbers.
I check meter every week so I know to the penny how much I am spending every week, not interested in smart meter display, if I want a coffee the kettle goes on, if I am cold the heating goes on.
Please stop harassing me, tried to contact them, only by Facebook or some other thing I would rather poke my eyes out with a rusty nail than register with Facebook, phone call if you have the patience to wait and I do not use text

My mum has been having similar from British Gas regarding replacing both Gas & Electric meters for the last 2 years. Seems to be at least 1 letter every fortnight relating to one or both meters. Talk about a waste of paper (not sure how that sits with their green credentials but hey ho).
The most amusing part of this is that the currently installed meters themselves are only just over 3 years old, so they effectively started spamming her shortly after the first year that they'd been installed
She's phoned a few times to advise / remind them of this and they don't need replacing, gets told a note will be added to the file but no change.

N-Power and now EON keep pestering us to get one. I'd happily have one, but there physically isn't room in the meter box due to an additional, now unused, junction box left in there by the builders. The smart meter installers won't move it and I'm not paying an electrician to move it either.
Before my supplier went bust, they originally insisted I had a smart meter but didnt really want one and then changed my mind and asked them to fit one but they couldn’t as apparantly I have one already (I don’t)
Someone has my record updated incorrectly and I’m in limbo but not getting hassled lol

Constant attempted harassment, text, emails and calls. I can't be arsed as:
a) I live by myself in a modern house so my energy costs are trivial, not that I can see any benefit in knowing how much I'm spending per millisecond even if my bills were a lot
b) I would have to trim back some plants in front of the electricity meter to give them access to install one

I actually agreed to having them installed after Green Energy went bust and I was moved to EDF. Problem was after 5 months we discovered the smart gas meter is as thick as s
t and wasnt registering our usage. I still have to read it for them. The thing you have on the counter top is in a drawer somewhere.

Do you make a note of every phone call you make so you can cross check your mobile bill? Or do you accept their numbers?Johnnytheboy said:

My smart electric meter was saving me £30 a month for no extra effort before Covid, probably about £10 a month now as I'm driving less.

Do not have to, pay £5 pm to sky for unlimited calls, low usage do not use it for Internet. So bills are always correct.Maybe I trust Sky more than I trust power companies? I expect I will get a letter soon that they want to increase my payment, started contract in sept so they will look at usage in Feb and apply this to estimate for remainder of year conveniently ignoring summer period when heating is off. That is reason I monitor meters and can accurately forecast for year.
I had smart meters fitted recently due to my bills constantly being wrong and direct debits being increased. Personally I would recommend it, they send readings every few seconds and you can monitor the readings on the meter yourself if you so wish. The little display showing your usage, cost per day, week, month, well that’s optional and you can just Chuck it in a cupboard if you don’t want to see it. So the advantage is no more submitting meter readings and no more wrong/estimated bills and shocks.

You can still do that, as much as you want. The meter's own display shows that, so you can poke around under the stairs like a peasant if you wish.
LIke it or not, the market is heading towards these being the norm, up to and including non-smart tariffs being more expensive. May as well take advantage of the "bribe" and the cost benefit while it exists, because it soon won't.
(note - I held out until SMETS2 was well established, and opted for a monthly data submission, which is the minimum required. If there's an advantage to me to change that to more frequent, I will.)
It's still a meter - has a reading that you can take if you wish. If you get a mobile monitor, it means you can place it next to you at all times and with a few clicks of the screen take a reading as often as you like. Why the paranoia? Gas prices are going through the roof by the most obvious means possible, they don't need to be sneaky to make more money.

So why are the power companies sitting on millions of pounds from customers by overestimating their usage? I do not give interest free loans out to anybody but I do pay all my bills promptly, do not use credit except CC which is cleared monthly.A smart meter will not stop them putting up the monthly DD based on monthly readings if you start a contract in September as I do.
