If there’s a thread on this already, apologies. Not sure how you search for it. Basically, I’m weighing up the pros and cons of various brands of garage door and wondered who is happy with a recent door they’ve have installed. Hormann look great but for my double garage is about £4,600. Garolla are £2,600 for the same type of insulated roller door but I suspect it’s not quite as good quality. Also looked at Birkdale and Crocodile. Any recommendations? Thanks.

I have Hormann doors but Aluroll have a good reputation.

I had two sectional Hormann doors installed at the tail end of last year and am very happy with them - great quality and it's much warmer in there now!

I went for the Supramatic operators which means I can open the doors using an app on my phone, very handy!

That’s why I’m interested in the Hormann as it will insulate the garage well. Did it seem to be an easy install for the fitters?

I have a Hormann roller shutter door though not insulated (as far as I know).

It seems a bit slow to open and close and makes a bit of a clatter but they may all be like that. Most useful is the optional wireless push-button which I've set into the inside of the front door frame. If I press it as I go out, the door is open by the time I get to the garage.

Sounds a good feature

I hav3 a Horman roller door on my singlegarage. Chose Horman aswe had a manual up and over on the previpus house garage and excellent.
We have two remote activators and a wall fitted manual override in case of power failure. Inside and outside to cover being stuck inside and outside access.
Standard roller door with the usual safety features of reverse if blocked, good all round seal.
Cost about £1400 3 years ago. Faultless over 3 years. Noise? Some but no more than expected not a problem. The wall mounted inside controller has a light that comes on for a set time so no stumbling in darkness.

I installed an Alutech insulated sectional door a couple of years ago. Alutech are basically Hormann clones, but much cheaper. Insulated means the garage stays toasty even in the winter, because the boiler is in there.

FWIW I use a Garador operator with a couple of remotes and a couple of wired wall switches inside the garage.

Here ya go: https://www.gateremotes.co.uk/hormann-hsz1.html

You just drill a hole somewhere convenient and push it in. My front door is about 40 feet from the garage with the house in-between and the signal works perfectly.

I don't use the normal key-ring fob type opener as it just seems more faff to carry around, drop or lose.

I too am very interested in this thread as I've started to go out looking for companies to do mine. I've been looking at Norman and been quoted £3650 inc vat for two sectional doors with the Supramatic E4 operators as I've been told that the Promatic are out of stock due to covid and supply which adds £75 per door to the quote also we need blue doors which RAL 5011 blue is now classed as a special colour, which unfortunately means it is now more expensive. This has added an additional £200 inc vat to the quote.

Going to get a company called Zap next as my parents got theirs done by them and they did a good job.

I'm based in Leeds for reference

I've just committed to a Hormann Roller T. 4230mm x 2250mm. £2386 supplied and fitted. Which I didn't think was horrendous. Lead time on manufacture delivery is around 8 weeks I believe. Will update when it's installed. 5 year parts and labour warranty on the motor, 7 year on the door.

That’s an excellent price. I was quoted £4600 for a 4.5m width so not loads bigger. Cambridge tax I guess 🙁

I had two Horman doors fitted in July last year. Great doors.

Happy with the doors but the Staffordshire company 8 used were hopeless.

I paid the final amount this month.

Total was £3.5k using Sommer motors and the Somweb system for linking into my phone and home automation.

I've ordered a new garage door due to be fitted w/c 7/2/22.

I looked at several options and spoke to 3 companies and settled on a Teckentrup GSW40 to be supplied by a local company who said he only fits Garador or Teckentrup as others seem to give more problems.

The Teckentrup was marginally dearer but he says they are better quality and suffer less wear.

Obviously I can't confirm or deny yet.

I have 3 Alutech sectional doors, 2 singles and a double. Recommended by the installer as just as good as Hormann but cheaper and had some features that were better for my installation (more flexibility on panel dimensions). He was a Hormann installer as well but said nothing between them on quality. He did however recommend the Hormann opener units as better than the ones supplied by Alutech.

I have a keypad remote to unlock each/any door (useful when outside and need to get into the garage when you don’t have a key on you), remotes, and a push button wireless system inside to open the doors.

I’m extremely pleased with them. Draught free and insulated.

Didn't look overly complex but it did take the guys all day to do my two normal-sized doors so I'm glad I didn't have a go myself!

Keep sourcing quotes.

I paid a shade under £2000 fitted for a 4800mm wide Alutech double door last year. Insulated as standard. Anthracite was a no cost option. That was with upgrades such as L (large) ribbed panels and smooth finish opposed to default woodgrain. Also included was the supply of an optional wireless wall mounted opening switch.

Garador was £2400 in default white, or £2900 in Anthracite but not inclusive of other extras such as the wider smooth panels.

I have a double garador sectional.
I came about £2500 and I've been very happy with it.
