I'm having some thin coat rendering done and I'm concerned about the finish

I think it should look like the first pic - essentially an impermeable layer

But I have areas that are full of "pinholes" it looks like there isn't enough fine material so the course grains are exposed

I've googled and can't find detailed enough images

I've checked the packs and he is applying it as it says and is getting the coverage of 10m2 / pack which is the guideline maximum

Should it be thicker or am I worrying about nothing ?

My concern is the dirt will stick in / water will freeze and blow it off

Edited to add - they are very close up pics - the grain size is 1.5mm it looks great on the wall it's just the longevity I'm concerned about

I paid someone to put on EWI thin coat render last year. Looks like your first picture, no holes.

I’d suggest it’s gone on too thin. We didn’t get anything like the coverage suggested on the packs, got about 65% of the maximum.

Contact the manufacturer, they know their product pretty well IME.

I called the supplier after typing this - he confirmed my thoughts and your comments

Max is 10m2 but realistically it's 8m2

It's frustrating as I had the conversation with the renderer before, as I got pinholes in a sample I'd made on a board to check the colour

In fairness the brochure even says "thickness is the depth of the granule size" ie 1.5mm

It was started yesterday - whether to try to "top up" the thinner areas not recommended but it isn't cured yet - or wait and see

Luckily I started him on the back where it's piecemeal extensions

Looks like the product is going off before being rubbed up. Usually requires 1 applying and one rubbing it up with a hard plastic float

Thanks that might be it - he's just turned up so I'll have a chat

I made a silly maths mistake - they are using the correct amount at 8m2 per tub

It's frustrating as he only does rendering and did one for me a few years ago but using a different product
