I will be moving my washing machine a short distance (few doors down the street) using a hand truck.
I've lost the transit bolts, and buying spares are about £10 for one bolt(!).

Would like some thoughts if it's ok to move the washing machine witthout transit bolts?

I’ve never fitted transit bolts in three moves now, absolutely no issue

It’ll be fine, honestly. Unless you plan on chucking it around.

Don’t be so anxious.

I can’t imagine you’d have the slightest problem - they get a fair bit of hammer from normal use - the drum is never in balance.

Moved ours about 7 miles in the back of the car with no transit bolts and it is still working as normal.

Cheers for the quick replies all smile I've done some research and so far it seems that it's a big NO moving washing machine without the transit bolts.
I will of course ensure it's drained and set the right psi on the hand truck tyres to ensure smooth ride.

Oh my God, DON'T DO IT!

Please, think of your family, it will destroy itself and you'll regret it. It's simply not worth it.

This was my first reaction!

But yeah, I've put one I bought of eBay in the back of the car, on its side, run it for 7 years, then moved it a Luton body van and run it for another 4 years, and now it's doing a daily wash of reusable nappies. Never had transit bolts for it.

12yo 6kg Zanuzzi I paid £85 for.

Over the past two machines that have averaged 4 years use before becoming economically unviable to repair I’ve mused to myself if only you could buy 12 year old Zanussis brand new…

Thing was a steal when bought. Temp knob stuck at 30deg for the second time, owner didn't want to pay the call out fee and have the hassle so replaced.

I got a sub 1yo machine for mega cheap, blob of silicone grease on the temp knob detent sorted it for life.

The first 7 years I had it I had two lodgers and it lived in the conservatory.

Just got lucky I think really.

I agree the OP has nothing to worry about, but what exactly do 'Transit bolts' do?
They must lock something (the drum?) in place, but not sure why.

The drum usually hangs off a couple of springs at the top and a couple of dampers at the bottom. The aptly named transit bolts, together with foam packing, stop the whole thing moving around. Moving it yourself isn't really an issue without them.

More fun is running the machine without taking them out and watching it walk over the floor.😁

Yes, but it doesn't explain why.
Watching people make washing machines destroy themselves on YT is great fun though biggrin
