Strange water issue causing humming
Discussion
A constant ‘hum’ noise has started and I’ve traced it back to the water meter in the street in front of the house. The noise internally can be heard from the stopcock and you can feel a bit of vibration in the pipe work around the stopcock. The dials on the water meter are dead still when there is no water demand and I’ve checked over a 3 hour period suggesting there is no leak (no bill increase either). The hum noise is constant 24hrs. Shutting off the internal stopcock and draining all water in the system doesn’t make any difference to the noise. Nipped round to the neighbours and they don’t have the problem (meter’s are next to each other under the same cover)
The fact the noise is constant is causing a real headache to figure out. I think I have ruled out an internal issue aswell with turning the stopcock off making no difference.
Any ideas are welcome as I’m a bit puzzled on this

I’d call your water supplier.
Thanks - I think that’s my next step in troubleshooting tbhAlso to add there has been no drop in water pressure/ flow
My experience of calling the water supplier is that they are pretty good at coming out
Called the water company and they ‘suspect’ it to be a faulty stop tap on their side at the meter. Booked in for a replacement sometime in the next 2 weeks
Is there anything else I can try or troubleshoot in the meantime? Would hate to wait 2 weeks and the replacement doesn’t solve the problem

You could see if placing some foam/insulation down the hole does any good but it may be too much vibration to solve DIY.Is there anything else I can try or troubleshoot in the meantime? Would hate to wait 2 weeks and the replacement doesn’t solve the problem

Good idea I’ll see what I’ve gotI did think it could be the internal pressure reducing valve next to the stopcock humming away and the sound is travelling to the meter in the street. If the water is turned off internally would the valve still make noise?
