It could just be a duff temperature sensor. If the controller "thinks" it's at 2C it'll stop the compressor, which would explain the lack of running as well as the poor cooling performance.

Is it a fridge freezer? If so, is the freezer working normally? Our fridge was too warm but the freezer was fine. As I understand it the cold from the freezer is used to provide the cooling for the fridge, but something had frozen up between the two. Defrosting the whole thing fixed it.

Is there a block of ice and/or a blockage of some sort around the temperature sensor? It sounds like it's the temperature sensor, but it may not even be faulty, just giving a false reading because of a simple problem.

Is the 2 degrees readout actual or desired temperature?
Is it frost free or manual defrost?
What make is it?

Without the above info we are just guessing what the fault might be.

This happened to the parents Samsung fridge freezer. The defrost sensor failed, ice built up on the evaporator so duff reading was being seen. Sensor swap and relocation change, it’s been fine for the past 4 years.

If there is a discrepancy between the real and displayed temperatures, fit a new sensor.

It's a common problem on all heat pump systems, various sensors must read correctly - if they don't you will have a problem.

Ours had similar symptoms but ice cream also wasn’t quite going hard - we could freeze ice cubes etc so it was below zero, but both fridge and freezer weren’t at the temps being shown.

Took everything out of the freezer and unscrewed the panels - lumps of ice the size of my fist came out. No signs of issues with ice beforehand.

Worth a look if you can
