Feeling a bit inferior when I see on Zoom calls everyone has clutter free rooms and neat bookcases. Am I in a minority that has a few weeks worth of Spectator and Autocar lying about and should get the vacuum out a bit more frequently, or in my 'study' old C++ manuals and extension leads on the floor?
Or this fairly normal and clutter free people the weirdos?

I’d love a tidy house. The kids mess the place up faster than we can tidy it. We nag the kids. They do a half hearted attempt at tidying. Then we nag some more. It gets me down sometimes as I just live in a constant mess. Well meaning friends and family buy the kids ever more toys so the house just fills up with more and more crap and the wife doesn’t want to just throw it all away.
Pretty tidy all of the time, you will see the dog toy basket on its side sometimes with dog toys scattered around it, this is when one of the dogs has been looking for something specific, but that is pretty much it, the cushions are always neat and tidy on the sofas, books stacked neatly on the coffee table, remotes lined up etc.
Now my sisters though, the whole house looks like a bomb has hit it, I actually find it quite stressful when visiting as they just live in clutter and mess.

Living room is generally tidy, but will regularly have piles of stuff heading to the "study". The "study" is a state. Piles of crap everywhere with a path to the desk. Also have an exercise bike and a couple of dumbbells in there, but have to go elsewhere for floor exercise of any kind. Kids playroom varies from utter carnage to surprisingly tidy depending on whether the cleaner is coming or how recently she's been.

I find that a lot of people (especially americans) dress the rooms they have zoom meetings in to project an image.Or this fairly normal and clutter free people the weirdos?
Meanwhile mines is messy bookshelves and my bike.
I wouldn’t worry about it, unless you’re embarrassed to have folk in the house you’re probably fine.
My Mrs is a clean freak and everything has its place most things have to be away in their respective storage spot she hates clutter.
Out lounge contains 1 sofa, 2 coffee tables, 1 TV, 1 painting, a lamp and a TV stand that hides the ps4 etc. I suggested we get a rug and maybe a potted plant.... she did not speak kindly to this idea!

Living room is usually pretty good. Lifted massively by a rainforest's quota of houseplants and Mrs is superb at tidying.
Only thing is we've usually got some form of 'project' on the go on the table so that's usually covered in stuff.
My office is properly 50/50. Everything visible on Teams is immaculate. My hobby desk the other side of the room is always carnage.

My wife puts bloody cushions on everything, and more pillows on the spare room beds than any reasonable person would need. Drives me nuts. The dog seems to share my opinions as every couple of days he will jump onto the beds and chairs and chuck them all onto the floor, which makes me laugh and drives my wife nuts. The living room was just about tidy with one dog, but the second one is a tornado. Toys everywhere, plus the odd trainer for additional chewing.
My study is my own bomb site. Clearing it out is on the to do list but the camera doesn’t point at the floor. More important making sure it doesn’t catch a glimpse of the art work my wife bought me that would land my arse in HR
