Delicate Hormann garage door remote controls
Discussion
I've ordered a Hormann LPU42 garage door for installation in a couple of weeks (with Supramatic 4e operator). I've read that the remote controls are pretty easy to break, and quite pricey to replace - e.g. £40-50 for a HDR 4 BS.
I was wondering if anyone had tried using a third party remote with a Hormann door - e.g. like the ones for sale on eBay or Aliexpress?
Also, has anyone got any good ideas for protective coverings for the remote to lower the risk of breaking when it inevitably gets dropped?

we've had a Hormann garage door for the last 8 years - and despite me being a clumsy bugger not once have we needed to replace the remote. HTHI was wondering if anyone had tried using a third party remote with a Hormann door - e.g. like the ones for sale on eBay or Aliexpress?

Yep, we've had two remotes break.
The main controller is on the wall in the garage but we have smaller controllers that are on keyrings. This controller was dropped by a garage whilst the car was in for service. The buttons came out of the remote and they couldn't find them :-(
So, we had to purchase a later controller for £80 IIRC as our existing unit was no longer available (new unit HSE2 868BS) that was recoded to our garage door. All good until the Wife dropped her keys and that controller is now held together with cellotape :-(
I've just ordered a spare remote from Amazon for £9 and as sceptical as i was, it coded up fine and works a treat

Mine came with one 'full size' remote like this

and one of the smaller key ring ones like this

I've not been particularly careful with either, no problems.
One issue I did have with the bigger one was the AAA battery leaked inside and jammed the little cap on. Had to clamp a coin in a vice and use that to open it. Made a bit of a mess of the cap but it came off and with a new battery it still works.

So I have no need to carry, lose or drop a handheld remote.
