Hi everyone,

I am a small-time developer and I recently purchased a property for a client with the intention of converting it into flats. The property had an electricity supply, and I deliberately continued paying the standing charges to avoid losing the capacity. In the backyard, there is a substation.

Fast forward to recently, while I was conducting the onsite preliminaries for the conversion, I noticed that SSE had dug out the cables. When I challenged them over the phone, they mentioned that it was due to a safety concern. However, my provider is still charging me the monthly standing charges.

To complicate matters further, SSE is now requesting a significant amount of money from me, claiming that there is no capacity in the grid. I am quite perplexed by this situation and would greatly appreciate it if someone could introduce me to a solicitor who has experience with such matters.

Any recommendations or advice would also be extremely helpful.

Thank you in advance!

Call in an emergency- power cut.

You’re paying a standing charge and bill.

Do you have an agreed capacity stated on your bill?

OFGEM is your route.
