Garage door cable issue
Discussion
My garage door has finally given up the ghost. It was inherited in a poor condition with the runners gone.
I've got one side tensioned the other not and can't get the garage door down.
Not knowing how they worked earlier I booked someone to come round but on Youtubing guides the new cable kits sound quite easy to sort out and something I can do myself tbh.
I can get one cable off the runner, should I just snip the other one and replace both sides with the door down?

Those wires are under a lot of tension. Please be careful! I've got one side tensioned the other not and can't get the garage door down.

I originally booked a national wide garage door repair outfit to come over to look at this and they just did exactly what I was going to do which is snip it.
Another rip off outfit though, "Oh yeh this door is obsolete (Apex) and you can't get cones so it needs a whole new door I'm afraid".....I did a door this morning that was 1800 fitted.
A quick look on a garage parts website and I find some cones for an obsolete apex! They are on the way so lets see if it's worth the gamble.
TBH, I have wanted to replace the door (original door from build) with a padded one as it gets constant amounts of leaves and always a big breeze through it in winter months.

Loads of different sized cones with new cable kits and they last at least 10 years as i did mine.
I have seen, and I asked whether you had to use the "Apex" ones....bloke replied yes.Not naming and shaming this outfit as I've not paid a penny and he helped get the thing down with me.
