What brand masonry paint?

I need to do a little bit of exterior painting on some render tomorrow, probably white or something very similar.

I would normally go to b&q and get the cheapest they do - is this a false economy? Should I look at dulux or something?

Sandtex masonry paint. Unless you're trying to paint a black wall white it will only need one coat and will stick to anything in my experience.

Two coats onto bare breeze block and it has lasted five years still looks OK. Two coats to ensure complete coverage of every corner on breeze blocks

Inside of carport and outside wall at BBQ station, both still good

Just did the whole house last Summer.

I used Wethertex (based upon numerous recommendations by pros) and was impressed with the quality, ease of use and coverage. Still looks fresh now even after a battering this winter.

I would certainly recommend it based upon personal experience.

Try pliolite silicone based paint.

It’s the only paint that has lasted on render for our house.

+2 for Sandtex.

Been on our render for 5 years now and the only reason I put another coat on the other year was the salt from the new block work leaching through the render in places and marking the paint, hardly the paints fault.

Any of them will be crap if the surface isn't prepped properly.

I beg to differ with sandtex, the paint is the is holding half of the bricks together on my garage

When I had a semi detached in Dawlish
my neighbour painted his place with Dulux weather shield the same time I used Sandtex textured.

2 years later his place needed to be painted again, it looked very tired and showed mold/green on the walls
ours still looked great 6 years later.

I would use Sandtex if in the UK
abroad look for Marshall Akrikor Elastromerik
I painted our current property also near the sea as was the Dawlish house.
this paint has been great 3 years after application, very flexible and has not faded in the Sun to bad so far.

I painted the exterior of my dads bungalow with Dulux all seasons masonry paint (pliolite based) around 10 years ago. His bungalow is on a mountain in Wales, and gets some ste weather. The paint still looks solid.

Bumping this one as it's time to paint the house. Clearly Sandtex is the choice but there is also Sandtex trade. Research suggests it is even better than the retail stuff. Anyone got any comments/experience of it?
