I'm shocked.

We have people renting stables, they leave taps running now and then.

I cannot buy a self closing outdoor tap that you can attach a hose to!

How odd. I thought you could buy any variation of anything nowadays.

Can you not just buy a hose and then take the nozzle out witch will turn the water off? (Like most domestic hoses?)

Or am I missing something.

I'm certain there will be a fitting that is self closing after a period of time, that you can marry to a hose outlet.

Yeah I'll have to put one of these in the pipe before the tap. Maybe take the top off the tap so it's left on

I want them to have to stand there with their hand on a button to keep the water coming out. Like in the motorway services before it got all high tech

am i being stupid...

just add this to your hose pipe - https://amzn.eu/d/dxoCCB7

and remove the metal clip that keeps it open - they have to pull the trigger to get water out

if you're concerned they'll remove it, seal it on

Plumb a manual water pump onto the tap with some hose. When the horsey people come to complain that manually pumping is taking to long. Explain that that they need to turn the tap off and you can change it back .

One of those shower valves that gives you 30s-1m of water would work.

Sounds a bit of a pain washing a horse with one hand on a valve (I wouldn't know but logic dictates that would be tricky) so it would get bodged open and then you're back to the same problem.

It'll have a couple of zip ties holding it in with the week.

Just put a water meter in and charge them per litre, they wont leave it running then smile

I would just tell them not to leave it running, and if they do, you will have to charge them more, easy.

You can lead a horse to water, but...
...because they have hooves their fine motor control is useless and they can't get a decent grip on the tap head?
