Neighbour Hassle
Discussion
Have any of you guys experienced this and how have you dealt with it
We have lived in modern property for the last 24 years during which we have used our double garage to house various classics/performance cars, currently a TVR Tuscan and MGB. We do no mechanical work on the cars ourselves only cleaning the cars and routines routines such as tyre pressures etc…… The cars are moved twice a week max and we have a holiday home so away most weekends. We have two day cars that are parked on the drive in front of the garage.
The next door neighbour who has been there since the houses were built has started to complain when the vehicles are moved on account of the noise from the Tuscan in particular. That has recently become more aggressive and frequent, despite my trying to rationalise with them. I think they are often p-ssed worsening their attitude
I have tried to negotiate with them, only moving the cars when necessary and reducing engine running. I am of a mind to tell them
to f-ck themselves, but we live in close proximity and my wife is urging restraint. I am reaching the point where I could completely lose it with them. Any experience of this and how did you deal with it?

I had a similar thing with my next neighbour, but only once.
I was going to a show and was out earlyish (8am) and started the engine and let it warm up while i checked over a few things (tyre pressures etc)
My next door neighbour and her adult daughter came out and passed my drive on the way to their clattery old mitsubishi diesel pick up. The daughter came on to the drive and advised me to turn off the car as her daughter (thats right three generation under on roof) was still in bed. She got quite cross when i advised her to mind her own business.
For context they have four adults and one child and a total of 7 vehicles randomly taking up everyone elses parking spaces.
The daughters boyfriend (also living there) had a dirt bike a couple of years ago that he was "repairing to sell" by repairing i mean dragging it out on to the driveway and giving it full revs for around 30 minutes 2 or 3 times a day and more at the weekend.
They also have two fairly large dogs (a french bulldog and a german shepherd) they never seem to walk and spend the whole day in the house alone constantly barking.
Wow i actually feel a bit better having typed that out. Pistonheads: Therapy Matters...

Cars are always seen as anti-social and an annoyance arent they.
Bet you wouldn't complain if your neighbour had a petrol lawnmower / strimmer and cut the grass all the time.
I got a complaint from a neighbour once when I lived at my old place regarding BBQing, even though we put up with the almost constant smell of cannabis.
I think people just like to complain / stake their claim.
To me, you are being considerate and its your hobby - live and let live, its not like you are bouncing it off the limiter every other day.
I always wonder how good it would be to live next door to a fellow petrol head - fancy moving? The house next to me has just gone up for sale, and its got a garage

Think it very much depends on what it is. There’s a JCW mini that visits a house nearby on a fairly regular basis, the exhaust on it resonates through the houses (Victorian build), quite impressive as it doesn’t sound loud and it’s some distance away but at the same time annoying for 60 seconds each time.I always wonder how good it would be to live next door to a fellow petrol head - fancy moving? Also as a petrol head I still wouldn’t appreciate the constant noise of a V8 idling away.

So what’s changed to make the neighbour start complaining after 24 years of no issues?
Also are you moving them just to move or are you using them?
Moving them just for washing etc, then for periodic use, but no more than usual. Just before Christmas the neighbour randomly came to speak with me to apologise for any screaming g and shouting from their house as she was on post cancer medication. Suspect this is a continuation of thatAlso are you moving them just to move or are you using them?

Simple.
Tell him if he has a complaint about noise he should contact your council's Environmental Protection Team to raise a noise complaint.
They will take one look at it and laugh.
Sorted.
I think I will have the number to give them next time it happens, goodthoughtTell him if he has a complaint about noise he should contact your council's Environmental Protection Team to raise a noise complaint.
