Can I get a council tax reduction?

Recently moved into a 2 bed detached bungalow, converting the lounge into a large bedroom and the two bedrooms into a large lounge, can I get a reduction on my council tax as it will then be a 1 bedroom bungalow. Not interested in devaluing the property as I intend dying in it, I'll let my kids worry about that as it will be significantly better altered, all opinions welcome.

I'm not an expert but I would have thought it highly unlikely that changes to the interior of your house would affect the Council tax banding.

I believe the council tax will be based on the banding which would have been applied in the early 90s or when it was built if after.

If that property can be re-banded and considered a lower band then yes. That's on the assumption that the value will have come down. I would be cautious of that as it could go up.

I moved to a bigger property but similar value to my last. Old house was banded in the early 90s and this one was done in the late 90s when built and it's over £100 a month more than the last property per month.

You'd need to have it reviewed by the Valuation office to get the band changed.

Another point is that if it has been improved and it's deemed to have been improved significantly enough to raise it intot the next band this would only happen after the next sale of it. Apparently.
