So it turns out Ring are a bunch of useless s. Who knew? They're part of Amazon, after all.

Any recommendations for alternative video doorbells? We're not part of the Apple ecosystem, if that makes a difference.

Yep, happy with my Reolink (PoE version) too. The person detection works well, no need for a subscription unless you want to store recordings in their cloud. You can use a local SD for recordings accessed via the app, and email/ftp/NVR if you want to store elsewhere just in case.

I have a Ring doorbell, and my only issues are the poor wifi range, and the random (sometimes lengthy) delays between someone pressing the button and receiving a notification.

When it works, it works very well. I have a Ring chime unit, several Echo Show units, iPhone and Apple watches.
I like the fact that motion detection and doorbell presses are reported by all these devices. I can see who is at the door, and talk to them, on the Echo or iPhone.

The random delays are annoying though, so I'm looking to replace it.
I bought a Tapo D230 on Prime day. The included hub gets over the wifi issues. It has local storage - no need for a subscription, no "cloud delays". The hardware seems pretty much spot-on for my needs.

The integration with Alexa and iPhone is dire though. Stupid spoken Alexa announcements, and couldn't get alerts on the Apple Watch to work at all.
Sending it back.

Do any of the alternatives integrate as well as Ring devices, while providing subscription-free local storage and decent wifi connectivity?
