YODEL delivery? Is it just me or are they utterly cr*p?
Discussion
Ok, so a parcel was due for delivery yesterday. The tracking tells us it was due between 17:50 and 19:50. After it didn't arrived, we checked the website and get told they tried to deliver at 12:40 but as we weren't in (!) they have not left it. The option to have it left at the house on the website is greyed out so I can't choose it anyway and when you ask for a 'live' chat you are left waiting. It took 15 mins to get someone on the chat (Indian call centre) and they've been useless.
Looks like I'll have to pick it up from the depot which is in another city.
Grrr. 1st world problem obviously but why are they so cr*p? We get Royal mail, Amazon, DHL, UPS, etc. all the time with almost no issues. This is the first time using Yodel and it just seems totally mickey mouse.

They are a bit crap. We had the opposite a few days ago though, left on the doorstep without knocking so the parcel ended up being outside overnight, luckily it wasn't valuable.
The driver must have been some sort of ninja though, to open the front gate and make it to the door (and back out again) without at least one of our three dogs kicking off

It all varies.
We had a yodel delivery last Friday (signed for, we where out) and the guy put his name and a mobile number on it, rang him without issue when I got home from work, and he offered to drop it round to us or any neighbour on Saturday even though it was a Mon-Fri only parcel, as he had a parcel nearby on Saturday delivery.
Cant fault that, then text us his eta an hour or so before hand and turn up within 5 mins of the estimated time and handed it over without issues.

According to the chat bot, looks like the supplier didn't tick the box that said it could be left at the house which is why the option isn't available. I'm assuming this costs the supplier something and they cheaped out. They were also supposed to leave to 'you were not in' note to say they tried but there isn't one. My guess is the guy couldn't find the house and just buggered off.
I've raised the issue with the supplier but as its for two pieces of clear plastic (all of £20) its not going to rock anyones world. Just annoying.

I always groan when I see its being delivered by yodel.
Once bought a christmas present for someone that was delivered by yodel.
They wouldnt leave in a safe place so I had to go the depot which was a 20 mile detour on the way back from work where there was no obvious signage to get to the collections desk. Once found they took the best part of 5 minutes to greet me after ringing the attention bell and then took another 10 minutes to actually find my parcel.

Never had an issue with any courier. They all put things in my safe place. Job done. Royal Mail on the other hand... complete s
tshow. Won't leave things in my safe place, take them to the post office which is only open during office hours and Saturday morning, so I have to wait until the weekend and it's so hard to park that I end up walking 25 minutes there and then queue for half an hour with all the other miserable sods who can also only get there on a weekend.

Worst for us is Amazon.
We have 3 or 4 different drivers working the area. One is very good - always rings the doorbell and waits.
The others prefer the "drop and run" approach - either on the doorstep, or in some random place at whichever side of the house takes their fancy. It's like they don't know what a doorbell is.

Had an email from Yodel today (now Inpost) stating my parcel had been delivered through my letterbox, no parcel so I go to their online chat saying no delivery, confirm a few details and straight away they say "if you download our app you can check delivery and proof of delivery" , No, not doing that just to look for a photo that will not exist!.
Agent says have you checked with family members or neighbours as tracking as you say says it has been delivered. Once I replied with no delivery has been attempted as I have been home all day (i have) and also have security cameras (I do) the agents attitude changed and said "don't log out I will look into this for you straight away", replied a few mins later saying I will receive an update via email along with photo proof of delivery, I'm not holding out much hope

Terrible. Managed to lose an E30 BMW M3 rear seat and then disputed the value when it came to claiming.
Some months later I did some temp' work driving a transit van from Truro up to their Bristol depot. I had to get there for 3am so as to bring down any packages that couldn't fit onto the HGV wagon. They would load and unload without even a modicum of care. I witnessed packages literally being volleyed into the back of the van.
I never send packages via Yodel.

People need to stop buying off companies that use the cheapest couriers.
The courier drivers are working for well below minimum wage.
Pay peanuts expect monkeys as they say. If your courier manages to do a better job for pennies you're a winner.
I very rarely know which courier will be delivering my bag of goodies before I get the email notification The courier drivers are working for well below minimum wage.

Problem is I am rarely given a choice. Personally I find DPD reliable and it’s been the same local driver for 5 years. The courier drivers are working for well below minimum wage.

All the cheap couriers have drivers on a self employed basis that rarely last any length of time as the pay and conditions are illegal.
An update (of sorts) on my missing parcel, received three emails today from two different people on the customer service team,
First email - your parcel was marked as delivered and handed to you on 05 August 2025. You should now be in possession of the parcel. If you have not received it, we recommend reaching out to your sender, who will be able to advise you on the next steps and liaise with us on your behalf.
Second email - Unfortunately, the depot was unable to share conclusive information in the given timeframe. Therefore, we suggest that you get in touch with your sender for further guidance and support.
Third email - The depot has confirmed that the driver attempted to deliver the parcel but unable to do so. Your parcel is ready for collection at the service centre. We kindly request that you pick it up and provide your government-issued ID upon collection.
Have tried to speak with them again via online chat and was told to disregard the emails and contact the supplier
