Hi, we are on a 2200lt bulk LPG tank & the meters they supply are pathetic "like an old fuel gauge". So years ago we fitted our own gas meter so we could keep an eye on our cubic met gas usage. This has been very helpful. At the time it was easy to fit the meter in our bungalows loft as that was also where the boiler is. We are now in our 70s & can do without climbing into the loft to get readings.
So, we thought smart meter & a remote energy monitor like our electric one. What we dont know is can we use a smart gas meter just to get a consumption reading, ie cubic meters. We are not worried about giving us prices just the amount of gas we use & show up on our in house monitor that we use for the electric. This would have to work without DCC that energy suppliers use. & yes, we realise we would have to change the meter to a newer type 2. Any ideas if it will still work.

Depends on the meter, how about

Webcam, raspberry pi and some image recognition would work, I'm sure this has been done.

There must be zigbee type gas flow metering devices, but it seems that the americanisation is infecting search results with "gas" meaning petrol.
