Any plumbers out there - any idea what this is?

I moved into a property recently and noticed under the kitchen sink there was some extra hoses.
I had a plumber around for a separate issue and asked him what this was under my sink. He was a bit stumped and suggested maybe it's to ionise the water but wasn't 100% about it.
In the second picture is a battery pack. I did try a Google Lens search although it has not come back with anything definitive.
Any ideas?

There seem to be four flexi's going up past the sink - where are they going? Is there a boiling water tap?
The other end of the two darker ones seem to disappear through the back of the cabinet.
Googling suggests touch sensitive taps can have a battery box.
Separately: Does the sink drain very slowly?

It's interesting you mention touch sensitive tap. We turn the tap and open it and sometimes no water comes out. Then we have to tap the lever area and water starts to come out. At the time, the plumber said it was a faulty valve. I don't know if it's by design because sometimes when water is flowing it suddenly stops and then need to give the lever area another tap to make the water flow.
We have a dishwasher and washing machine on the left side of the sink. Maybe the piping is connected to those?
I haven't filled the sink to the top but have not noticed it drain slowly.

As that has 4 water connections, it also explains why there’s 4 flexi’s!If you scroll to the right of these pics in the link, it appears to be the same battery setup as this touch tap.
The touch feature in addition to the normal lever seems a bit unnecessary though.

Surely taking out the first two bends and the second (horizontal?!) trap would have it all fit in nice and neatly?? It's not trying to achieve anything complicated, unless it was some attempt to move the trap away from the under the drain??That layout is so far beyond bodgery it has to have had help from alcohol or hallucinogens.

Wonder if gaz will find the other inevitable bodges around the house before they find him.
I like how the ‘fitter’ broke their saw blade so finished cutting out the rest of the cabinet-back with a hammer.

At least it sounds like there's no faulty valve and can save money and avoid buying a new tap.
Now if I could just figure out why it takes so bloody long for some hot water to start flowing it would help!

If the state of the waste pipes is anything to go by, it's probably down to the length of pipe from the source... 
Just to update: last night my kitchen tap stopped working. I replaced the batteries in the battery pack and the tap started working again.
I have to admit that putting in 4 AA batteries so I could use a tap seemed like a very backwards idea in this day and age! I am interested to know how long the batteries will last before they require replacing.
I'm not sure who thought this idea was better than a conventional tap.
