Acoustic Panels for home office
Discussion
I’ve been busy over Christmas sorting out my home office. It was horribly cluttered, very claustrophobic with dark grey walls, and the yellowing varnished timber desk/table was up at a much higher “bar stool” level. I now have this, which I am quite chuffed with for a few days hard work.

However now the unused Poang chair and footstool and a load of clutter have made an exit, the room is quite “echoey”. So I’m thinking of fitting some acoustic vertical batten wood/felt panelling at the end by my workstation.
Any advice gratefully received! I suspect the walls aren’t very square, which with floor to ceiling vertical lines would mean OCD hell at the edges. What about doing it but leaving a 6 to 8 inch “border” around the edge, including where the desk meets the wall?
Thoughts please, I don’t want to make an expensive mistake!
Thanks all!

That looks great; nicely done! ow have you achieved the glow-lighting? LED strips?
Have you considered hanging a large fabric or flag to give some sound deadening? My SiL has done so in her lounge and it has been effective.
Yep, IKEA LED strips on remote switches, plus the IKEA LED head in the corner, it’s supposed to be for yoofs to store their gaming headphones on but I keep my spare aviation headset on it. I’d considered a flag but I just want a cleaner more contemporary look.
In our main office at work they mounted sound proof boarding (approx 500mm square) on the walls then found a company that makes what can best be described as a sock that goes over it. They can print any image you send them onto the sock. The end result looks like a canvas on the wall.
I've got some of these. They do the job and look OK.

1.2*2.1 is a very unusual size for a board. https://www.tectake.co.uk/acoustic-panel-set-of-2-...
These are very similar to the panels above, but large range of options that you may or may not like

Thanks guys. I think the real questions I need answering here are
1 - Do the panels actually work and improve acoustics
2 - Will it look OK with the "border" or will it look odd/lose effectiveness
One of the other reasons I want to leave a border is the panelling is much thicker (20mm +) than the "edge" part of the skirting and the plaster cornice.

We redecorated our home office two years ago and have a very similar layout to yours. We also have a wooden floor which compounds the echo effect. Our solution was to use two ceiling mounted acoustic panels (1200mm x 1200mm). This has massively reduced the echo and means we haven't lost any wall space.
