What happens to a programmed heating schedule when a Hive thermostat's batteries run out? If there's no way of knowing what the temperature is, does the heating either not come on at all or come on to schedule and run hot for the whole period?

Is this the controller on the wall? You get a long warning about the battery level falling, both on the thermostat and the app.
Without the thermostat I guess it has no way t record what the room temp is, to control the temp, but I never let mine run out

This thing:

We're away from home and getting alerts about low batteries. With temperatures of -6 forecast, I'm worried about frozen pipes. However, we'll be home on Sunday so unless it really plummets I suppose I shouldn't worry.

I think we had about one-two weeks grace on ours. You should be ok

Please note: While “LOW BATTS” is shown, your heating and hot water will continue to work normally. If your thermostat displays “CHG BATTS” your heating and hot water will switch off and can only be controlled using the button(s) on your Hive receiver.
