Has anyone hired one of these carpet cleaning machines and if so how did you get on with it?

Used one to clean the carpets when we moved out of our flat.
We cleaned the carpets when the flat was empty.
It was was enough to use.
Took out alot of dirty looking water.
The hiring fees and buying the associated chemicals were not too bad.
Definetly worth it because we got our full deposit back.

Yes, a couple of times. On a carpet that's been down for a long time, it's scary how much filth it pulls out.
When you've finished, the carpets are still a bit damp and can take a couple of hours to fully dry.

I used one in my old flat and it absolutely ruined my carpet. Rug doctor said they tested the machine and it was fine. So I had to get a new carpet.

I never really got to the bottom of what happened and had to buy a new carpet as I was about to market the place. I was quite cross about it all tbh

They’re good but not as good as a VAX.

If you plan to do it regularly, invest in a decent vax, if not they’re fine for once overs, quite cumbersome though

This.

We bought a returned/refurbished Vax from this ebay shop worked out cheaper than repeated rug doctor hires.

It's okay that poetry doesn't rhyme.

Used it in our two bed rooms that didn't get damaged in our renovation. Hired it for 48hrs, did multiple passes on each carpet, seem to have done a good job. MIL hasn't complained yet about the those carpets so must have done something.

Same here.

However, we had used them previously with no issues. The last time it left lots of patches, so they let us use it again FOC but couldn't get the patches out. Thankfully, they paid for a new carpet.

(I say thankfully as the carpet was worn and left over from the previous owner and was therefore on the 'to do list' of things to changewoohoo)
