Standard oak block work top, finished in osmo clear matt oil. It could really do with a sand and reoil, but what other options are there?

We stayed in a holiday rental with a dark wood varnished top, Mrs H liked it. Is it feasible to varnish current oak? And would it be curable? Or does the sensible money go on a couple of coats of osmo?

We're not too precious about a perfect finish, some patina is fine.

Next q, I get easily bored with preparing surfaces; so is it quick and easy for a clumsy numpty with a lidl sander, or should I get a man in?

We use Danish oil . I lightly hand sanded it once about 3 years ago . It then won't need sanding again if you re apply the oil once per quarter.
It takes 10 mins or less to re apply with a soft lint free cloth. Do at bed time and in the morning give it a quick buff with a similar soft cloth.

In a previous house we had a varnished worktop. It deteriorated and looked terrible. You can't just add more over the top . It's a lot of sanding before adding more varnish. it's not a great solution in my view .

The oil takes 15 mins of my time three or four times a year and looks great .
