Well, the car port is already built.. and as I am planning on re doing the drive I am going to refurb the car port, as you can see it is a bit tired.

Plan is to tile the inside in 20mm porcelain + ditra mat, however my tiler noted that there were a few humps and its generally uneven. So after speaking with the ground workers, they have suggested to break out the hump, relay and grind the rest of the floor to get decent levels all falls for tiling.

Tiler was not sure on the best product to build up the levels, as self level compound wont work.

Any suggestions for building up the levels on the existing slab which may be 20mm in places?

Many thanks

Just a comment - do you not want a higher ceiling for car lifts / general space etc.?

Higher celling would be nice, but not possible without permission, grade 2 also.. Got a store room next to this so OK for storage.

Given the exposed nature, make sure you go for a tile suitable for external use, particularly in terms of slip rating.

Grinding down that floor looks like a pretty unpleasant/expensive job. Would a polished concrete finish suit?

We did some flooring a few years ago. 20mm to build up, and outdoors, crosses off most of the standard SLCs, but there are some around. Time to dry will probably be inversely proportional to cost! Ardex do some fancy concrete-based options from a quick google, there will be others.

How do you like your kinetic splitter?

I had a similar structure a few years ago - I added double doors to each bay and it was transformative.

Tiles will be slip rated outdoor type.. The openings are around 6m each so would probably have to be a 4 door garage if I go for doors.

Other issue is height, my wife's discovery has about 100mm clearance on normal ride height so I don't see how we can have doors and have enough clearance for a 4x4. I do have outbuildings and have plenty of space, it keeps the cars dry and serves its purpose I guess!

Ground workers seem to think they can vertical cut the hump areas and pick away at them to reduce the height in the worst spots.

Definitely doors.
I put down an epoxy floor in my old garage and it made a big difference as well, although you'll need to be careful with that drain.

You can get sliding garage doors.

We have them, hormann round the corner ones. Work well, albeit it 30% more then up and over. They are cool though.

Thanks for the replies.

Well after a bit of searching you can also get side mounted doors... guess they have openers like on gates so would give me the full height..

Need to build some brick piers but would be much nicer, and as planning on getting a new toy soon makes sense.

That's not a car port, that's a garage and a pretty stout one.
