Outdoor Canopy to keep a bicycle reasonably dry
Discussion
Does anyone have any recommendations for an outdoor canopy to keep the rain off a pushbike?
I've tried something along these lines:
https://gardensanctuary.co.uk/products/white-outdo...
and the last storm we had killed it.
I've got no problem spending more money, as long as what I get is reasonably sturdy.

I presume it's cheap/hack push bike?
Any prolonged storage of a push bike outdoors will kill it very quickly from rust etc, and or get nicked - My mates caught someone sawing through a drain pipe his cheap £100 commuter bike was chained to down the side of the house!! I keep all my bikes in the house now, as we have had them been taken from the garage before.

It's for my Mother, and she's 83. It's in a walled courtyard with zero visibility from the street, and for my Mother convenience is very much key. When my Dad was alive their bikes were stored in a locked shed. She much prefers just plonking it under a canopy.Any prolonged storage of a push bike outdoors will kill it very quickly from rust etc, and or get nicked - My mates caught someone sawing through a drain pipe his cheap £100 commuter bike was chained to down the side of the house!! That's pretty much what was there before. It could be made to work, but I think she would prefer a canopy - if I can find a decent one.nammynake said:
Unless it’s enclosed it’ll eventually rust. What’s the issue with a small shed or bike container?
She's 83 and wants a canopy. Don't be awkward.OP
I'd just fit the same again, unlikely to have another storm liie the last couple this yr (famous last words! ) if the brackets are still OK, just get some twin wall polycarbonate from your local Eurocell type place.
Hold onto salvageable bits as spares.

Incorrect. Just getting it under a canopy and keeping the drivetrain oiled will ensure it runs for years. Any prolonged storage of a push bike outdoors will kill it very quickly from rust.
An exception would be a maritime climate. Then you would have to be more careful about dry storage.

If that worked for your 83 year old mother then just get the same again. I've tried something along these lines:

Great to see she's still on the bike at 83
Hope you have got her one of those new eBike things.

This one has lasted less than 2 years. She doesn't live local to me, so I don't really want to be having to bodge it back together every time I visit. I'd much prefer to put up something decent - if such a thing exists - hence this thread.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
