I want to put a doorway between a bedroom and a smaller box room. I'm quite happy with cutting out the plasterboard and studding and creating the doorway and refinishing. It's not a supporting wall. house built mid nineties.

My query is, what will I find at floor level? will the "bottom" stud be fixed to the joists below and the chipboard flooring boards butted up, or will the flooring run across the joists with the the horizontal lower stud fixed above it?

The wall runs at right angles to the joists below.

Stud wall will be built off floorboards.

You generally lay the floor then fit the stud walls on top. I would be pretty confident that’s what you will find.

Yup, in our house the walls are definitely on the top of the flooring.
