Hexagon LED garage lights?

Anyone fitted them?

My aging fluorescent tubes are starting to fail and I;ve always fancied an upgrade. At one end of the scale I could just replace the tubes with T8 LED replacements and call it done, but at the other end I could go all 'detailing shop' with the hexagons - but only if they;re worth it.

Anyone got any, or fitted any?

Any 'must know before' factors?

Or other recomendattions.

Double garage with a 3 x 6 foot tubes one side and 4 x 5 foot tubes the other side.

I get asked about these a lot. However, I have yet to see or hear about a set that has been designed properly, from scratch, and specifically for a UK manufacturer with a solid UK manufacturer backed warranty. E.g Robus, Enlite, Ansell etc

Everything I see is direct from China or direct from China with a short lived brand name attached, and marketed on Social media, at double the price.

If anyone knows any different, feel free to correct me.

I think they do a terrible job of lighting a car. They seem to be disappearing from YouTube and I suspect that’s the reason.

I might have got the wrong idea but - itsn't the whole idea that they don't give an even light.
I thought the 'pattern' was supposed to help spot issues when 'detailing' (that which used to be called cleaning in my day).
Surely hex lights are not suitable for workshops as the light is not even.

A friend of mine has a 3 x 2 hex light install in his classic car workshop. At 4m ceiling height the light at gound/car level is very good (e.g. does not result in harsh shadows, creates a uniform light).

Those IG shots done in HDR with the assembly 1m above the car don't neccessarily highlight the reality.

That makes a kind of sense.
I was in a high-end yacht repair workshop a while back, they had a range of wacky lights to show up GRP defects,
edit. Should have said FRP, lots of carbon in there!

The hex lights just look like a studio set for Top of the Pops in about 1979.

It's not my kind of garage. I have a range of LED and fluorescent battens on the bottom of the storage racks which run across the ceiling. Plus 'task lights' of various flavours.

I used to like them, and was going to install them during renovations of my 4 bay garage. But now I can't stand them. As above, they looked good on instagram, but now look tacky IMO.

Plus, they are just cheap crap as most people have found out. My worry would be having sections fail and then being unable to buy the correct replacement pieces again.

I'm going to be sticking with LED downlighters.

I'd suggest searching for petrolped on youtube. He has refurbed (practically rebuilt) his garage and had a UK company supply and install these lights. He has a full series on the garage refurb and at least a couple of episodes on lighting.

Seen a couple be assembled and the quality looks as you'd expect from something direct from China.

Not at all. I'm sure it will look council, especially as I imported a $100 set from China I imagine folks probably think the same about me in my mid 40s wearing Jordans on the school run too
