UPVC Door Hinge Fix / Removal
Discussion
Hi
I am trying to sort these hinges out on this UPVC door (patio doors which meet in the centre) but cannot work out what I need to do.
Where they have been allowed to swing in the wind they have pulled away from the frame and are loose where the hinge screws to the frame. I can see two screws and what I assume are two metal pins holding the hinge to the frame (marked in red in the photo). Guessing they must just be locating pins as I can’t see how they can be screws given the shape of the hinge.
I want to tighten the two screws.
Do I have to remove the whole door? And if so, how do I do it (which screw / cap / bolt do I release)?
Thank You

You mentioned it being a patio door, so likely to have glass (double glazed) from top to bottom? If so, the door will be heavy as f
k and you won't be lifting it up on your own.
Assuming a single door on a circa 2m wide double door, they're not *that* heavy. Granted, it's easier with the glazing popped out but that's another problem the OP doesn't need.
Certainly light enough to see if they are free enough to remove.

They are a bit of a nightmare because the cap isn’t coming off the hinge to access the screw either. I found a post on another site where someone was struggling to remove the cap on the same hinges as these doors.

Yeah, double french doors with a full glazed area of 58cm by 176cm. I thought they’d be heavy buy did think I’d at least be able to get them to move a bit on the hinge if they are loosely hung (rather than attached). Maybe they are just WAY heavier than I was expecting or I’m just extremely weak
.

The hinge covers should definitely pop off. Try and wedge a screwdriver or similar between the hinge pin and the flag to try and pop it off

Have you checked to see if you can pop the front cover off the hinges?
I have similar doors and all the adjustment lives under a removable trim that sits over the hinge a bit like this:

There's a bit more about the other types here...
