Anyone got experience with these?
I'm thinking of getting one for my outdoor kitchen, rather like the idea of being able to turn it into surface space as I don't imagine I'll be using the sink THAT much.

First question to anyone that knows them, are they actually any good and do what they say on the tin, or a silly gimmick?

And secondly, as with everything, it's turning into a bit of a minefield as to what you can pay for them.

I like the size, shape etc of this, but not far off £1k!!! https://www.tapsale.co.uk/kitchen-sinks/39012-invi...

Then of course Amazon have options of a much more palatable price, although I can't yet find one of the size of above

Any good? Part me of thinks it'll be awesome and exactly what I want, other part thinks it'll break within weeks and be a total pain in the arse.

Get what you pay for then? I guess there's a reason the other one I linked is not far off £1k.....

Can't you just get a normal sink like this and undermount? https://www.tapwarehouse.com/p/reginox-newyork50x4...

If the tap can't also be on the worktop, get a wall mount one. But they don't take up much space of a worktop

Well, it's not so much of a case of the tap CAN'T be on the worktop, I'd just like it not to be when I'm not using it. As it's the outdoor kitchen, there isn't going to be a wall to mount it on.

As is often the case, I'm being drawn in my something expensive and gimmicky, but I am quite set on the idea of it not looking like there's a sink there at all most of the time.

I'm guessing the way the tap fold away is where most of the cost it here.

We've got something similar to this:

https://havensmetal.com/products/segmented-sink-co...

We had quartz worktops put in a few years back and were advised not to bother with drainage grooves by the sink as they just collect limescale. A stainless steel sink cover was their solution, which is also slightly angled so that if you do put plates etc on there to dry, the water runs off.

This sort of tells me that the silly price is indeed the tap mechanism being able to hide away.

I could live without any of it and just get a normal sink, but I am rather stuck with this idea in my head.....

We're about to install something like this
https://www.villeroy-boch.co.uk/p/cisterna-50-unde...
in our kitchen as a separate sink just for drinking water. I think they retail for about 500 Pounds or so in this smaller size but we have it left over from a previous plan and I got it cheap as I worked there. I plan to have the tap coming out directly from the work surface next to the sink. Finding or making a cover to fit would be easy enough especially if you don't mind it a little proud.

ETA they also offer a tap like this https://www.villeroy-boch.co.uk/p/como-shower-wind... that you can just pull out and hide away which might solve your problem, about 200 pounds.

Is size an issue? If not, there's some much cheaper smallish option sif you google "campervan sinks", most of which are designed around a chopping board sitting on top.

I think I'd like it quite big as I'll be putting BBQ stuff in there, which tend to be big tongs etc, as well as maybe various bits of the big green egg grills etc......guessing the campervan ones are all pretty small....

Main thing here is the tap being able to vanish into the sink, which I'm guessing Belfast doesn't accomplish?

It’s only a five minute job to lay on your back under the sink unit and disconnect the taps with a spanner: I can whole heartedly recommend the Knipex brand, or Wera at a push. HTH.

I've noticed in industrial kitchens they use retractable hose taps for cleaning kitchen equipment rather than traditional taps so something like that could be hidden off the counter top and extended when needed?
