I live on a cul-de-sac. My property has around 20 feet of pavement in front. I place my bin in this area. After its been emptied its always placed in front of my driveway instead.
Neighbours all have similar setups. No one else on the cul-de-sac has their bin returned over their drive after its had been emptied.
Bin is always placed handle side facing the road

Is there some other binman 'code' I'm falling foul of? Tired of having to get out of the car to move it when I get home

I have exactly the same. I'm number 1 of 12 houses in the close. Mine is the only house with the bin returned to the end of the drive.

If I'm out on bin day, I always have to stop in the road and move the bin before reversing onto my drive.

To try and tempt you to put it away properly? Rather than it staying in the road blocking the pavement for a few days.

If you are like me, you are probably more likely to do a half assed job of rehousing the bin when in a hurry to get in and unleash the bowel monster you have been cultivating all day, but hay ho.

Or they have a shedload of houses to do, and some petty middle manager is riding the trucks staff about efficiency or targets, so dump and move on to the next one.

Have a chat with them, or leave them a note and a box of sweets/chocolates. Sorted.

They manage to precisely place others that literally have a bin-width of pavement that isnt covering their drive

It's probably just how the bin lorry lines up when it stops.

Case of cooking larger would probably go a long way to help. We give ours a case at xmas, and the postie.

Yes, cook massive portions, that should sort it out.

because it's quicker? I'm sure if you bin wasn't emptied because they run out of time you would be more upset.

Tickled me.

The obvious spelling mistake my phone won't pick up on as lager is a seldom used word in flat towers.

I remember the good old days where they got the bin from your back garden and put it back again. I fully expect in a few years time we'll need to empty it into the bin lorry ourselves.

Depends on the crew, they get rotated round here, we have a long frontage.

Mainly as above depends on the driver, sometimes driver stops ,metres away from where the bin is, guy puts it on the machine but leaves it where the wagon has stopped, maybe 3 or 4 metres from where it started, and because there's no pavement sometimes it's a couple of foot in to the road.
Another crew had the operator chucking the bin back in to the drive entrance, as the OP states, now I can't open the electric gates because the bin is blocking the safety beam.

Is the obvious answer but a lot of people now don’t talk to each other or the postman or bin men.

Its because they don't like you biggrin

Do you put your bin handle out so its easier for them to grab without having to turn it round ?, do you say hello with a smile when you see them ?

Binmen can be a pain in the arse if you upset them...

Our recycling bin always gets left with our right hand neighbours bin 50m up the road outside our left hand neighbours house , the main rubbish bin always gets returned , i assume different crews , not really an issue just a bit strange .

As others have said leave the bin handle facing them, leave a pack of beer on top and note come Christmas time and tip your Post Man / Lady and a smile and thank you and it's quite shocking how much smoother things can flow.
