Fed up with continual rises in my home & contents insurance. Now at nearly £3500 for an not that large place.

As I found last year for one reason or other most online quotes come back "Computer says no"

Anyone got any good recommendations for who to try?

There's obviously more to it if you're paying £3500. Location/claims history/ value etc?

From memory, aren't you in SW4? So a high rated area for contents cover, and if you have a decent family home, a value in the millions too for buildings I guess.

I don't think someone coming on and telling you to try Titanic Insurance, because they only pay £75 for their maisonette in Ullapool, is going to be much use.

Mrs BC has some very expensive jewellery which as to be kept in a safe so normal insurance companies don’t work for us.

We insure with the NFU or you could try a specialist broker.

Either try a broker ( Howdens are decent enough ) or search for any HNW brokers you like the look of.
Hiscox and NFU you can contact direct.
Values / type / construction will all play a part.
If you paying that now I doubt the range will be be lower than circa £3k though.

No claims, SP6 (Salisbury) not SW4 (London), order of magnitude out on house value, zero flood risk, standard construction but some of it old (1600s) but not listed

Contents & valuables is high but realistic at just into 6 figures

In that case I’d start with one of the comparison websites. I’d still try the NFU though.

If some parts are that old it might also be worthwhile just checking on rebuild valuations especially if you haven’t had one in recent years.
Standard construction from 1600 may vary !
Appreciate not listed but you don’t want to find you are under insured.

We are with NFU and pay about £1400 a year for a 5 bed detached in rural Herefordshire with multiple outbuildings. I would give them a whirl if I was in your shoes. £3500 sounds a lot??

I checked NFU after recommendations on here and they wouldn't insure me.

There was a rather expensive watch amongst the four I wanted to cover which they seemed to baulk at. I was quite surprised but Aviva covered no problem.

They tend to go for the higher premium stuff, or things with a vague connection to farming and the countryside.

OP - I'd run it through a comparison site and see what that comes back with.

If the premium quoted is about right then you should probably check with a broker who can run through everything and ensure you are paying for the correct cover.

I too got feed up with specialist broker quotes and NFU/Hiscox etc wanting 3-4K.

On a whim got a quote from Admiral via their website as insure some cars with them. £1800, would have been half that not for watches and jewellery. 7 figure listed house, standard construction, rural.

Aviva/M&S or NFU would be my suggestion on that. This year we went with Policy Expert which was more reasonable and covered high value items without having to submit a valuation.

Don't dismiss M&S - they have a remarkably thorough policy (albeit a bit limited on standard construction for the property).

Unlimited buildings and contents, valuables up to £50k (15k single item) and cover for the same available out of the home and the property is defined as including grounds so covers garden furniture etc.

Premier for me is about £1,600 a year.

We were with Lansdown on their Axa Private Client and they have merged with Lloyd and Whyte,

This years cover is very competitive and has gone down in price
