Hello,
Following on from my recent thread about my solar panel installation, we don't seem to have an MCS certificate and it seems that this is required to export our electricity. Assuming the firm that installed it cannot or will not supply the paperwork does anybody know a way around this.

You can contact MCS, who'll tell you if a certificate has already been issued. If it has, you can request (pay for, I think - £25?) a duplicate.

If it hasn't you can request them to nag the installer. They can apply pressure by suggesting that their accreditation may be withdrawn.

If the installer doesn't exist, there is a way to get a certificate directly, but it's a pain in the backside.

Is the installer actually certified and just refusing to issue or are they not certified?

Did your contract say an MCS cert was being supplied (this is an important one)

Having looked at your thread about the install and getting solar power working, I would be very surprised your installer was MCS qualified as MCS installs have documentation standards which your install seems to be totally lacking. If this is the case, then getting an MCS certificate is going to be a difficult task as you will need to get a qualified MCS installer to validate and certify the system.

Just looked at photos of that install and some of the wiring is a bit iffy. It's probably worth doing a check on the MCS website to see if the installer is listed as MCS accredited on there.

I think Octopus allow export from non-Mcs systems but there's a £250 application fee and you're tied to using them for export.

Thanks for everyone's help, I have been on the MCS website and I don't think the installer is known to them. We are with Octopus and they do seem to have a work round which we may pursue. In the meantime we have asked the installer and they have got back with an offer of a certificate for an additional £400.00 We will proceed with caution.

I think if they're offering MCS for an additional sum it'd be worth chatting with MCS. With the state of the install and that, it looks/sounds bent.
