... but this RSJ looks dodgy as hell!

https://youtu.be/GgPK9xbJ9GU?si=2dOCyzwEz3UhJGOM

I sometimes watch this guy's beer reviews and enjoy them. He's making changes to his house, and doing the work himself - fair play, I couldn't do that.

But f*** me, this is surely going to end in tears (or worse)?

Fascinating, compulsive viewing.

I wonder if he's married?

As above, JFC.

Looks like he’s got no idea how joist hangers work either.

That's madness. I hope he reads the comments and takes note before his house falls down.

Interesting on, don't really want to subscribe and encourage the situation, but do want to see how that pans out.

There's a real danger with just YouTube-ing stuff and going "cool, I can do that."

"Is what they're doing even correct?" doesnt seem to factor in a lot of the time.

Crazy video… maybe he shouldn’t mix lager reviews with structural house renovations. I am not a builder but that RSJ install looks perilous and I think he has a surprising lack of self awareness and the risks he is taking.

I hope it is inspected by building control as if one day he sells his place an unsuspecting family will never know what lies under the plaster.

He needs to be safe, for his own sake!!

A screengrab just to display the majesty of the installation.
I always wondered what those white L brackets I see in B&Q were for.

The likelihood of any form of Building Control notification having been submitted is zero.

I know there are a few inspectors here and am left wondering what can happen in this scenario. I'm assuming a BC inspector doesn't have the powers that say an HSE inspector has but can they do anything?

You're obviously an optimist believing it would stay upright long enough for that to happen!

I’ve watched Simon’s beer reviews, I actually recognised his wallpaper from the screenshot.

He claims to have been a joiner and worked on sites, so I’m starting to doubt that as just a few simple bits are so very, very wrong.

Wouldn’t you have a concrete lintel ready to cut up as a pad stone, or even just a plan for padstones beforehand?

I'd be sleeping in the car. How on earth did he do that on his own? It's easier to do it properly than to do it so badly.
