I'm trying a black tomato plant this year. It was looking healthy until a couple of days ago but now the lower leaves are curling and have black areas. The plant is outside and gets plenty of sun and shade. I water it daily, but not heavily. When you look up this sort of issue it's always the same - too much water, not enough water, too hot, too cold, a virus, a disease. They all give the same bloody end result! So what is wrong with my tomato?

I can't say what's wrong, but I never water daily.

I drench as required, typically weekly or fortnightly depending on the weather.

Snip the bottom leaves off; let the toms dry out for a good few days and then water...

Are you feeding them; if not try, but only small amounts. You want the fruit, not huge leaves (too much food).

I use a liquid seaweed at times and it works well, stops the build up of salts etc

Also have some chicken manure in the compost too as it breaks down and releases slowly... The San Marzano and Brandywine toms I grow love this mix
