Looking for a semi-perm patio umbrella, but one we can leave up and open without worrying about rain and average wind!

Will need to be 4m wide by 3m deep.

Rain proof ideally!

Will look to concrete it in, and remove for the winter

Any recommends for brands to look for, or avoid?

Thanks

12 square metres is enough sail area for a fairly high performance 2 man boat!

It'll be bolted down into concrete for that very reason!!

How can an umbrella be anything other than round or square? Seems to me the mechanism must, by definition, have regular dimensions .... but I've been wrong before.

I think you'll need a two- or four-poster at that size.

I don't think they come in that size?

Something more permanent, like an awning bolted to the wall sounds like a better option.

Turns out they do come in that size.

If you really want to leave it up semi-permanently, then, in my view, it’s going to need to be a commercial (I.e. really expensive) option - even good quality domestic ones will not withstand above average winds (ask me how I know hehe ) and will also fade/degrade if permanently exposed to UV).

Expensive aren’t they. Probably cheaper to pay a boy to hold a brolly over you on the occasions you sit out in the sun. Rest breaks will need to be factored in though.

That's not staying in one piece when the wind gets up. There's way too much sail area for the cantilevered metal frame to resist.

roll out awing - if you dont have a wall handy, get a frame made up for it out of some nice timber. You can roll it in out of the elements and put a cover on it for winter. This one was £229, 3.5M wide - 2.5m projection.

Even the commercial ones fade and degrade in uv.
