I’ve had a new bathroom fitted, and I’m not happy with the bath.

With my old bath, I could lay in it quite comfortably with my legs bent. With this new one, if my feet are touching the end, I’m practically sat upright!

I love a bath frown

The available length is 1.62m, is this the best they could have done? The new bath has a very square end, whereas the old one was curved, is this all that’s available now?

I think the next size up is 1700 which may not have fitted?

How old was the old one?

Yeah i think there may be a 1650 size available which could have fitted with a squeeze, but to get that one out could involve a whole load of hurt.

Did they supply the suite?

They did, I got then in, told them I had no idea about anything, I just want my bathroom revamping.

Trusted them with the rest.

I guess the place to start is by talking to them and try and sort amicably and see what they can suggest.

Might have to be a compromise somewhere!

Other than that, looks lovely though!

Lots of options exist but you can't easily change a bath once it's in.

One fun thing I found the hard way is that an old imperial size 5'6" bath is nominally 1700 but a nice German steel replacement is exactly 1700. I had to significantly adjust a couple of walls to get the new one in.

I embarrass my wife in showrooms as I insist on trying out baths, dressed of course. Avoids this issue.

This is going to sound extremely pissy but you should have put some thought into it then! Nowadays, it's more about just getting something that fits as it's either to simply splash some kids in or to stand in while you shower.

I fit all our bathroom suites and believe me when I do our next one at home I'll be making sure the wife is happy as she bloody loves a bath.

You have chosen a bath with quite a wide rim behind you, plus a 2cm (ish) spacer. You could have chosen a better shaped bath, and it is possible to cut them into the wall a bit too. It's a bit late now though. It's going to be expensive if you want that changed.

To be honest, I’m not good at choosing things, I told them I was pretty ignorant and useless, and i have no idea what I’m looking for, I’ll leave it to them.

Should I have expected better of them?

I do know that the panels go all the way to the floor, and the bath is sealed to them.

I’ve only had 1 bath, but I feel I’ll have to do something about it.

But that's a bit like being a car enthusiast and just saying to the salesman "meh you spec it yourself" and not being happy when the speed yellow with nephrite green interior shows up with the tiny engine and autobox.

You've at least got that crappy ledge and a st ton of silicone to work with in getting something new in but you're going to be able to see a new one has been bodged in unless you start replacing some shower panels.

On the basis you left it to them and aside from their choice in bath you are happy with the job then I'd say you've fgot a new bathroom and thats it.

Taking issue with their perfectly reasonable choice of suite when you didnt want any involvement is not going to fly.

Well every day's a learning curve, at least now you know what you don't like. You could fit a 1650 bath in easy, possibly even some 1700 (although now only if you start ripping off your shower boards) depending on edge cover.

Sounds like it's the shape you don't like, best get yourself off to some showrooms in your tracky bottoms.

It's not on the fitters, they did what you told them to do after all. Saying you don't know anything isn't the same as saying you want a big bath.

Do you hate it enough to have them back for a day to pull out the toilet, un plumb the bath, raise the feet on the bath so it drops down, whip it out and put your carefully chosen maxi-bath in its place? make good the seal and hopefully eliminate that filler bar too?

The filler bar looks like a fabulous place for wetness to collect and run on to the floor or cause mildew.

Would be disappointed with this over and above the bath capacity. Although I am a bath enjoyer so would be keen to specify my replacement.

At least your plumbers turned up, unlike the thieving cretin we tried to employ. Grrr, dishonest tradies.

Is the sloped end where your back goes causing the issues? Feels like it's forcing your legs towards the tap end, shortening everything.

With respect, if you "bloody love a bath", I think it was more up to you to get a tape measure out and be a bit more specific about what YOU wanted.
I don't think you should have expected any better of them unless you had a very specific conversation in advance.

Anything can be changed, but YOU need to figure out what could go there that YOU like, & perhaps go back with pleading eyes to see if they could do you a deal to swap it out as cheaply as possible.

It'll cost....but that's life.

Sorry if that sounds harsh frown
