I’m looking to get an outdoor sound system for parties and bbqs. Not sure what I need really, something with a bit of oomph that I can Bluetooth my phone to, with a subwoofer for a bit of bass.

Ideally it will all be rechargeable so I don’t have to faff about.

In typical PH fashion, we are far enough from any neighbours that it won’t be a nuisance.

Does such a thing exist? Any recommendations?

I went through this last year, ended up going with wired sonance outdoor speakers connected to a Sonos Amp which is placed in my garage. Incredible sound and is holding up well being out all year round. It was all very easy to install and I love being able to connect all my speakers via airplay and have the same music everywhere.

Outdoor speakers, Sonos amp, it'll knock the socks of anything else. Do it once, do it properly.

A mate has the Bose S1 Pro. Properly loud and bass aplenty...

Go with a few smaller speakers than 1 big speaker booming out.

That way you can have them all on the same level and be able to talk to each other than having one booming out from the corner.

JBL PartyBox 320

One of the rugby clubs I have worked with will roll out one of these bad boys for training sessions when the weather is good. I will often be at the other side of the pitch and can still hear it with decent clarity.

We have a load of Everse 8 speakers for this kind of thing.

You can link two together by Bluetooth, battery life is around 8 hours, and they are IP43.

we had one of those in the gym at work but replaced it with a soundboks. the soundboks sounds miles better but then it should be as it's more than twice the price.

Shouldn't this be in the "A bit council" thread?

How close are your neighbours?…..
How well do you get on with them now?

I've installed 3 separate outdoor speaker systems, don't worry the neighbours are far enough away!

For functionality Sonos is great (even if as a company I hate them) as we have a Beam sound bar for one of the TVs so I can then link it to some Sonos amps so we can sit on the balcony and still hear the TV for instance. Or use the patio with a portable projector and watch the F1 in the sunshine.

For speakers, Sonos' outdoor speakers are simply Sonance Mariner boat speakers in a new box, they're great...

BUT!

The absolute best is this;

The sound quality is genuinely as good as some indoor systems, I set this up surrounding the patio and it's as good as some pubs/hotels for volume and quality. Installed about six years ago and still going strong. One of the best sound systems I've ever wasted money on. Ran off a simple Sonos AMP I couldn't recommend it enough.

We have three acres of woodland so that should stop the noise complaints.

As above - run some speaker wire and get a set of proper outdoor speakers driven by an amp. Plenty of choice but I quite like my current B&W AM-1s.

I have mine hooked up the B output of my main hifi amp in the room that opens out onto the terrace. Old school approach but saved buying another amp and I can also play the same music both inside and out if needed.

As aside, it's surely more council to have neighbours within earshot than it is to occasionally enjoy some outdoor music of an evening?

It's what I did. I had a pair of Acoustic Energy weatherproof speakers and ran a cable into an amp fed by a Sonos bridge. The quality was extremely good.

Bluetooth is the cheap solution which can work fine, but it's never going to be as a good.

Thanks all, I note the comments on the amp and the wired speakers.

I was leaning toward Bluetooth because it was less faff - the staff are busy enough without getting them to wire up speakers etc.

I’ll do some more research though, buy cheap buy twice and all that smile

In the countryside that's not enough. Our previous property was 11 acres. Our nearest neighbour was 650 metres direct . It was pitch black and quiet at night no road noise. Animals and nature make a suprising amount of noise. The neighbours who were great, could hear our TV in a conservatory at normal volume. We could hear their mobile phones ring and the voice noise when they were outside.
You will irritate your neighbours.

Just to add to those saying to wire up some proper speakers.

I installed a pair of B&W WM6 outdoor speakers on the patio wired to a Denon DRA700AE amp/receiver, with the most used source being a Sonos Connect.

This setup still sounds great.

The speakers have been continualy exposed to the weather for a little over 18 years.

I believe the WM6 speakers were replaced in B&W's range by the AM1, which also have a very good reputation.
