Our trustee 16 year old Miele cat and dog vacuum either needs to be retired or needs several parts that will add up to near the cost of a new one. So it might be time to replace it. The cat and dog head seems to be the really worn out but but it really needs a new hose and lid and some other bits too. It's a bit knackered basically but it has had a good innings.

I'm a little concerned that new options are far lower powered than the1800w current one . I think this relates to a law change limiting power to 900w?

What I'm worried about is buying a nice shiny new vacuum and finding it is actually a bit weedy compared to our geriatric Miele. The trouble is, if I read a which review testing all the latest and greatest they're just compared to each other so are all low powered.

So what is the PH advice here? 2 feral children, 3 fluffy cats and a hairy dalmatian to deal with so whatever we buy will need to be effective. Past experience suggests that bagless and battery powered options won't cut the mustard but I'm open to being convinced otherwise.
