My current insurer won’t cover us while our extension is being built (about 6 months), any recommendations on who I may be able to get cover from?
TIA

Highworth - https://www.highworthinsurance.co.uk/

Gallagher - https://www.ajg.com/uk/personal-insurance/home/hom...

Both of these two were willing to insure my home while we were doing major renovations. I went with Gallagher because they were cheaper.

I took out a policy with Renovation Plan to cover the build timeline. Fortunately didn’t have to claim!

Hiscox (https://www.hiscox.co.uk/home-insurance/renovation-and-extension-insurance) are another option. Cover projects up to £250,000 on their standard policy. Isn't cheap, but they also cover the Works rather than just Existing Structures.

I found it very hard. Yes works were a lot but I tried every big name I could. Only quote was 22k and I needed a direct to fire service system installed during the build, which clearly isn’t viable when knocking it about.

When we did this house I ended up seeing an insurance broker, he got us cover, but only for 6 months.

The old house was covered by NFU, who would have covered us if, we drained all the water systems, but kept the central heating working, and switched off the electricity but kept the alarm system working, yet nobody could see the problem with that.

Ever since NFU have pestered me to insure the house with them.

I'm convinced the reason most people don't find insuring an extension stressful is that they don't bother telling their insurer! I've had significant stress with both my kitchen and attic extensions and insurance.

That's what I ended up doing. Was cheaper to pay someone to live on site with a fire extinguisher and alarm. The structural work I had no concerns as was over engineered anyway.
