Buildings Ins for Home Under Renovation
Discussion
Hi all. Getting close to completing on a house that will need a renovation, which will mean it isn't easily liveable for a while. Looking for buildings (and I suppose contents - even though there wont be much inside) insurance. Anyone recommend a company that can offer. The comparison sites all tend to assume that you will be actually occupying when they provide a quote.
Thanks,
BTW: expected duration of works is likely to be 6-9 months....ish

I think most home insurers allow you to tick a box to say there’s work being undertaken. Just be sure to double check the box…
We had a rear single storey kitchen extension built the year before last. Told the insurers as required. A little while later (works almost complete - extension done, kitchen going in) whilst mowing the lawn, by total chance, from 15 yards away up the garden, a stone is flicked up which hits and shatters one of our brand new bifold door panels (the expensive type with self contained blinds).
Decided (wisely or not - still unsure) to claim for the thousand odd pounds worth of damage, and relatively promptly got an email back from Admiral stating they were refusing my claim and were going to be investigating and prosecuting me for fraud, due to the damage occurring during renovations I’d not told them about…
Thankfully cleared up relatively quickly after a strongly worded email with an attached screenshot, and I received an apology from them over an admin error whilst some IT system upgrade/move/change had occurred.
