Id like to fill this middle gap between the 2 cherry trees. Previously had bamboo but it took over and il dig it out before the end of the year. I was thinking forsythia as it adds a bit of colour.

Ive dug all the bamboo out now. Is it best to wait until spring to buy a new shrub? Still unsure what to get. Ideally up to fence height and give lots of bright colour.

Photinia Red Robin would fill that gap a treat and give colour.

Your original idea of forsythia isn't a bad one, quite tough old things. I'd get it in this year so the roots have time to establish before the spring. It looks like a dry spot so keep it well watered in the 1st Yr.

I quite things that climb up though shrubs to extend the season of interest. Clematis and winter flowering jasmin work well and don't look too formal.

A pyracantha would work well too, flowers then berries in the autumn.
