Containers for growing fruit and veg?
Discussion
We stated 2025 off in a small house, with a couple of veg plot and raised bed in the back garden, moving in early summer, just before the garlic and raspberries were ready to harvest. Poor planning.
Now I am thinking about what to do for our 2026 crop, as it is about the time to plant garlic. The house that we have moved to does not have anywhere to put plants in the ground, only a greenhouse, tucked between the north wall of the garage and a laurel hedge (we have had a decent chilli crop this summer though).
This autumn, and over the winter, I would like to sort out some containers to grow some fruit and veg outside, concentrating on what we will actually eat/use as a family:
Something to plant the garlic in is the most important - I was thinking along the lines of a classic veg trug, which will go on a south facing patio.
For the raspberries I know I want to have 2 or 3 canes each of early and late fruiting varieties, to give a longer cropping season, rather than the big glut that we had before. However I'm not sure what to plant them in, and how big it will need to be. Ideally I am looking for something. can put in front of a west facing fence on our decking. I have seen a few raised be kits which look to be the right sort of size, but they don't have a base, so probably not ideal for going on decking. Can the PH gardeners recommend anything that would work here? Other than getting rid of the grey composite decking, which is on the cards, after the garage and the inside of the house are finished...
Also recommendations for a container type/size for rhubarb?

- Garlic
- Raspberries
- Rhubarb - the crown from our old garden has been in a 30cm pot for the last 5 months, so need to arrange something suitable.
- Herbs
