I know nothing about any of this stuff, other than the heating firm we used to replace the 2 CH systems/boilers in the house having to come out and get the heating working for us every year.

Apparently the boilers aren't powerful enough to pump the water to all the radiators so this year they have sent this quote;

I wasn't there, my wife saw them, I'm not convinced.

You have 2 separate heating systems in 1 home ? How big is it ? What pump are they installing? Installing a low loss header could cost that without a pump

6,500 sq ft. About 45 cast iron radiators. Boiler for each side of the house. One does the kitchen, utility and 4 bedrooms/4 en-suites and the other does 5 living rooms, hall and 3 bedrooms/en-suites and main bathroom.

Sounds like you've two boilers with built in pumps? The low loss header would be near the boiler, a sort of neutral point the boilers would pump into, then the bigger Grundfos would pump out from there round the house.
If the system's been balanced and all checked out for sludge etc so flow is as good as it can get it might be the only option - not cheap - but I'd question why it's worked previously after a plumber has come out to kick something every november.

My house is close to double that and has a small wall mounted boiler. Granted it is a recent build and insulated but why on earth do you need 2 boilers for 6500 sq ft?

On the pumps topic we have under floor heating and have a distributed system that has I believe 6 pumps round the house ( each under floor manifold ) and 3 in thd plant room ( heating / water / water circulation ).

I don’t know. It’s 350 years old and I assume it’s been like that for a very long time. I didn’t get the 2 systems put in. One side was a newer combi and the other was a tank system which we had removed and a new combi put in instead.

I’m afraid that’s all I really know as I’m not very clued up on it all.
