Note - I won t buy anything by that wker Dyson

I have a cheap (I think it was Lidl) cordless vacuum but it s st. Are they all st? I hate that they re obsessed with you not using them on full power, and anyway they hardly suck up with any power.

Only needed for small apartment so must be small and can be hung up ie no traditional sized hoover.

Is Shark the only realistic option? Bosch and Vax seem to be in the market. But it s a market mostly run by advertising and I can t trust any of it. Anyone got one that actually does a good job.

Edit a Miele for £246 seems decent from reviews

Recently went through this and didn't want to go Dyson.

That Miele you have linked is very old and has their gen 1 motor and was replaced by the HX2 range which has X more powerful suction. Reviews seemed to back this up.

I ended up going with a Bosch Series 9 and so far it has done everything we have needed. Also came with a second battery so if you were doing a large amount of cleaning in one session no need to wait on the battery recharging.

Henry do cordless vacuums now. We have one and it is very good, it's not light though and it uses bags.

They use cordless Henrys at work and they seem very good. Almost unbelievably quiet for the amount of suction they generate.

We have a Shark "wand" type vacuum and it's... OK. It doesn't have huge suction; it very much relies on the mechanical brush in the head to pick up dust.

I bought a Henry for work, seems much better than the Shark I have at home.

We've had a vax something or other for about 6 years, have to empty it quite frequently and I reckon you could only do 2 full house cleans on one battery charge but that doesn't matter as it lives under the stairs on charge if it needs it.

Seems to do the job, I'd buy another when it dies.

The Bosch above looks like it has a replaceable battery, I’d personally steer clear of their other model the Athlet after having one. It was a really good vacuum but the built in battery failed and it was uneconomic to replace via Bosch, looked at doing it myself, just getting the old battery out was a complete nightmare, there was no way it was going to go back together properly.

Replaced it with a Henry Quick, partly as I’ve got fed up with bagless and all the filter cleaning, had it over 2.5 years now with no issues. Really good suck, turbo is almost too strong, really sticks to the floor. In my small house the bags last a lot longer than I thought they would, it really seems to compress the dust, so I think I have about 10 years worth of spares at the current rate of use. I notice they now do a pro model with a flexible hose attachment, the only thing I’ve missed from the Bosch as the fixed tube can be a bit clunky at times.

After much research, Mrs A and I decided on a Bosch Unlimited 10 which is due for delivery tomorrow. It’s replacing an 8 year Dyson.

Hmm thanks all, I’m looking at the Bosch Unlimited 9 about 30” quid (the 10 is but more than I want to pay) or maybe the Henry Quick, about 200 quid at the mo.

I’m erring towards the Bosch as a few iffy comments on the Henry one

Can't go wrong with either the 9 or 10.

I liked the idea that the 9 had the solid metal tube whereas the 10 is plastic so it can go under the sofa easier.

I haven't had any issues putting the 9 under sofas etc.

Miele HX1 is a great cordless machine. Check out the price at Miele outlet at Abingdon. They also deliver. We also have a Miele Triflex and a blizzard. The HX1 gets used the most.

I just bought a GTech Multi K9 for £119 in the Amazon black Friday sale, it's usually £199. Other outlets including direct from Gtech have the same deal at the moment.

It is working very well, multi attachments plus a powered brush which is handy for dog hairs. Has scented plugs you can put into it too so you don't get a dusty smell

Shark make terrible cordless vacuums. The Henry is a good choice.
