I'm trying to set up post redirection for my parents' house - my mother recently died and the house is on the market. It would be useful to get all the post that is still going there to my address so I don't have to pick it up.

Stupidly I assumed it would be relatively simple to set up a redirect on the RM website. The first problem is that it assumes that you are moving - there's loads of reasons you might want to redirect post, but whatever. The second is that it assumes that you are the person that lives there - so I have to pretend to be one of my parents in order to set it up.

What's weird is that I get through all of the setup and it fails citing "we are unable to confirm your identity". I can't work out what the problem is though, does it check who is registered at an address first? It's asking me to download and print a form which I then have to sign as the person at the address which is fraught...

Hi,
I had to do this for my Brother a year ago , I had probate granted but don’t think I had to send any thing off. I used My details not My Brothers and had no issues , they send a confirmation letter to both addresses to check that it is not a false application.
Thinking about it , I may have gone into my local post office to do it and shown the probate letter.
Good luck

Sorry for your loss.
Have you pretended to be someone who has died ? They will undoubtedly have checks for this .

When I moved, I did it online, you do it in your own name, IIRC and the there was a box to check to forward all mail with the same surname.

Firstly sorry to hear your loss.

You have to go 'in person' to the PO with your Mums death certificate and your ID and proof of authority to receive the mail. Understandable really else anybody could get it.

Ah that explains it. I have (or had) power of attorney over her affairs, and I am her executor so will have control of things again but it seems that until we have a death certificate and have it registered there's not much we can do. Ah well.

Sorry for your loss.
Having gone through this recently the death cert is key to a lot of things so worth waiting until its sorted.
Grant of probate for me was fairly straightforward and took around 10 days which was a surprise, did it online too.

I think people have explained on here about the post office.

Another thought is ask either the agent or a neighbour to pop in, stick some prepaid big envelopes by the letter box and ask them to post on?

Lastly sorry again for your loss, when my mum died, I notified all the banks and important people, the rest can simply wait and after a while ignore them. There shouldn't really be that much after banks, insurances, medical etc. that will be that urgent. Get utilities transferred over or frozen etc and then nip once a fortnight\monthly at most.

Looks like you'll need to fill in a form and provide some documentation (link below).

It was a few years ago that I had this task myself, I don't recall the details but I got it sorted out fine.

Good luck, and sorry for your loss.
