I need to re-cover some dining chairs. They're just a board with foam and a cover stapled on.

I'm wanting to replace the covers, and will probably replace the foam pads as well.

I'd like to use a good quality fake leather. There's just so much stuff about, but what should I be looking for?
I'd like something that that ages with dignity if possible.

Mine need doing too, probably end up paying someone more than I paid for the chairs to sort.

We just looked on our local freebies site on FB. There were a few people with leather sofas they wanted rid of. We got one of those, cut it up and used the leather.

Wouldn’t you be better using actual leather?

Are these two requirements even possible?
Plastic will crack and will be unrepairable. Leather you can feed it and nurture it to last for decades.

I like the old sofa idea, I'll keep my eyes open locally.

Re quality of fake leather; I bet there's a lot of you who think their leather car seats are 100% leather, when usually it's only the facings. There's a lot of PU used, and sometimes it's even called 'vegan' leather. Some of it is quite good stuff.

As you can see the original finish is just flaking off now after about 8 years. The actual chairs are quite sturdy.
