I am pretty sure my thermostat is dead. Its not clicking at all. Only way to get the water to heat the last 2 days is to move the zone valve over manually which sends hot water into the coil.

Its this

First dumb question - I assume I can just remove this and no water will leak? I am assuming it just sits in a recess in the cylinder?

Second dumb question - I would ideally like to replace with a digital version.

Would this work?

The wires meet in a junction box on the floor so I can isolate using the fuse spur and then just replace with wiring like for like?

Cheers

Before you consider anything else remove the black cap and check that the high limit stat hasn't tripped.

By pushing in the button behind the cap? I have done this a few times, it does nothing. However tapping on the housing.... that eventually gets it to click - then it seems to work ok for a couple of days.

I was just checking that you knew there was a reset behind the cap.

Yes you can just remove the old stat no water involved and I see no reason the digital one would not be suitable.

Cheers all fitted the new thermostat this evening, seems to be working well.
We only had 22c water temp which explains why it was not getting hot!
So much nicer to have a digital read out.
