Are cordless vacs still crap?
Discussion
My mum is in need of a new vacuum cleaner and I was wondering if cordless vacs had improved? She has arthritis in one arm so I don't want to get her something too heavy. I don't think that's even possible because in my experience, vacuum cleaner and lightweight do not belong in the same sentence.
I bought her a vax 40v cordless thing. It was ok. Batteries died in 2 mins when on full blast, and it required emptying every time you used it. It also wasn't that light for something so small.
Then I bought her a corded upright shark. It was good, but it recently died. Also wasn't that light, but wasn't that heavy either. It did a thing where it separated and you could reconfigure it like a transformer. I was hoping that this would be the one that would make cleaning the carpet on the stairs easy. It wasn't. It was too cumbersome to use in any configuration other than floor standing. I've never found a vac that's any good at doing the stairs.
I've had a browse of reddit and people are saying stay away from dyson. They probably are still the best, but the build quality is no good. I haven't found anything to say that any cordless vac is a worthy contender to a corded job.
So it looks like i'm stuck with getting her another corded vac. Shark again?

We have one of these by Shark for general hoovering duties.
We have a Henry for more serious jobs
Battery life is good and its not too heavy for doing the stairs etc. It seperates to make the stairs eaiser and folds in half for storage.

Have a look at the Henry Quick - there are several versions but the only difference is what's bundled, e.g. the Pet has the mini motorised tool.
Unlike Shark and Dyson the Quick isn't bagless, it uses 'pods' which admittedly are an extra expense but they last for absolutely ages and there's no mess.
