Carving up the room would be a shame but I see what you mean about the size. My last house had a large (not this large) bedroom and it was difficult to heat, I now have a smaller bedroom which is difficult to keep cool, but I still prefer it to the large bedroom, the large bedroom was never cozy. It looks like the windows would comply anyway but a new bedroom would require a means of escape, so I guess it would need building regs sign off, probably a bit of a grey area.
