Best White Emulsion for coverage

I am in the process of repainting my buy to let to sell, the whole house needs repainting, all ceilings and walls. I started today with some GoodHome B&Q paint I had left over from painting our porch last year. Now while it may do an OK job on white, trying to paint over magnolia it is really struggling. Working out how many coats it is going to take, and how many rooms I have to paint it is clear a better paint is going to save me days of painting.

So what matt, white emulsion paint would people recommned for coverage and number of coats?

I know you can get brand like tikkurila for £60 for 10 litres, convince me this is much better than say Leyland Trade Contract White Emulsion for £22 for 12 litres.

I also tried some white emulsion paint in the garage that I found that I had never heard of (the sort of thing you would find in Wilkos, or B&M) and it was utterly crap, all it seems to do was soften up the other paint to the point the whole lot was coming off (yes I didn't leave enough time between coats)

I lost the will to live at this point, packed up and went home.

If you want decent coverage go to your local trade paint supplier. There is a reason the trade get their paint there. Doesn't really matter what brand you buy.

But painting white over anything but white is going to take 2 coats, but more likely 3 coats.

Get some magnolia mixed if you want an easy job, after all, your not going to be living there.

Dulux Trade Matt white gives good coverage in my experience. It's what I'll be using again soon to cover over the lilac and cyan that my daughter chose for her bedroom walls when she was younger, which now most definitely needs redecorating.

Crown do an obiterating white emulsion.

I had a local decorator do my late fathers house to freshen it up ready for sale, she just used Dulux matt from B&Q, didn`t seem bothered about the trade version.

I'm a decorator. I use this or Crown clean extreme for coverage. The clean extreme is scrubbable and very white. Much cheaper online through ebay than the Crown outlet though. I get 10l online for £66 delivered as opposed to £105 from the shop.

The proper trade versions usually have much more pigment in them than the consumer versions. You really notice the difference.

I bought some valspar paint other day, normally use Dulux trade and was really pleased with it. It was about £50 for 10 or 12 litres. It covered the wall nicely. Even my wife commented on it and she never notices things like that!
