Hello all

Had 2 x quotes come back for hedge trimming and removal

As a guess. 50m worth total

First quote. 600 cash
Second. 700. " but includes waste disposal "

Ive done it before. Not very great but it was half a day max

I assume they just dont want it

How much should they be quoting?

That seems to be the norm really with waste disposal, we are in the wrong game i think!

As others have said, it will be the disposal costs (and the time/fuel driving to the disposal) which add a chunk on.

My gardeners just cut one section of hedge at a time over a few weeks each time they come to cut the grass, and somehow manage to stuff the cuttings into my two green waste bins, so no disposal charges, thankfully.

Not 700.

Unless disposal is half.

Equipment? They already own it

You haven’t mentioned how tall or wide the hedge is, and how much you are wanting to reduce it by - that’s certainly relevant.

Regardless, the answer is keep asking for quotes until you get the right answer, or do it yourself.

I pay about 200 for significantly more hedging than that.

They come twice a year and I pay them around once every 5 years when the guy remembers. They must be doing yours as well and subsidising me.

Equipment needs maintenance, repair, replacement and consumables.

And I missed VAT off the previous list (if registered)

Paid £700 last year for 60 meters to be lowered by 2-3ft and cut back, took a full day and it seemed about the right price to me

Don't forget actually buying it in the first place.

Frankly I'd do it myself, cram as much as possible into my garden waste bin and then see if the neighbours have got any space in theirs.

Would be about £50, if you can do it from the road with a tractor.

But to make that happen, you may have to be in the right pub at the right time, and buy a few people cider.
Or know people who've got the right cousins.

Regarding waste disposal I pay £35 for a van load of green waste.

No idea if the rest is good or bad!

Last time I hired people to do this kind of work it was £500 for a day and that was pre Covid.

When you add all the costs up whoever is running that business is not clearing much money

Yeah……but the guy who came to do some tree work for me (for £1400 for a just over half a days work) spent half an hour telling me about how he was looking at buying a helicopter.

I don’t begrudge them a living at all but let’s not pretend it’s all eaten up by costs and that only a fraction is profit. They’re charging what they can get away with (and fair play to them).

Guess the director contractors at my place aren't earning enough.

Have started cutting it myself.

With these prices they deserve to be booked and cancelled so they lose a day from everyone

That's why all tradesman should take a deposit, to stop customers being dicks.

You think 700 for a day is a good price?

Why aren't we all hedge trimmers

Above said about fuel etc. We all pay that to get to work.

Tools. Unless new would own

Pure greed.
